On Monday 7th of September, a motion put forward by Fine Gael Councillor Alan Tobin, on the Prohibition of Consumption of Intoxicating Liquor on Roads and Public Places was unanimously passed at the monthly Council meeting in Navan. The introduction of this bye-law means that people who are found to be consuming alcohol on streets and open public areas can be hit with an on-the-spot fine of €75. Although some towns already have the bye law introduced, some smaller towns and villages do not ...

Submistted to Forum Newspaper
I am submitting this opinion piece to balance the equation with regards to discussions about the Local Property Tax and the decision to keep it as it is. 18 out of 40 councillors voted to neither increase nor decrease the LPT this year and it is to be noted that over a quarter of Fianna Fáil Councillors were missing when this vote took place.
It was requested by the Meath County Council’s finance department to retain the LPT figure because if it w...

The Meath Joint Policing Committee (JPC) is a forum that links the community and voluntary groups with local area representatives and An Garda Síochána to develop greater consultation and cooperation on issues of policing and crime. They liaise at regular meetings to discuss main issues going on around the county and discuss strategies to help deal with problems. The organisation ultimately seeks to establish a relationship between the representatives, the community and the Garda&i...

I am issuing this information to warn people who are considering purchasing a car from the internet, specifically Done Deal. I have recently been made aware of a scam that has been in effect for a number of months now at least, that involves a one or two people attempting to sell a car through this website. This scam seems to always involve the same people and the same car in every instance. They claim to be selling as residents living in Ashbourne’s surrounding areas but are in fact passi...

I take this opportunity to draw Council attention to deteriorating and neglected condition of Gormanstown beach and Meath coastline over recent years.
Lacking designation or special measures in area or development plan, it is all too easy think a beautiful natural resource will continue to mind itself in face of growing pressure and impacts and it is important to remind ourselves of obligations to the area under Wildlife Acts/EU Habitat; Water Framework: Marine Strategy Framework Direct...

"In light of an alarming increase in both burglary and theft in Meath compared to 2016, we call on this Council to write to the Minister for Justice asking to immediately increase Garda numbers and resources in all 3 divisions in the County (Ashbourne, Navan and Kells) and that if these resources are not forthcoming or available that the Defence Forces Army Rangers wing is brought in as an additional resource for night time patrol and check point duty."

Senior Alert Scheme
The Senior Alert Scheme is a valuable initiative that helps to protect older and vulnerable people in the community by providing them with a personal alarm. It is worn either like a pendant around the neck or a watch around the wrist. When pressed, a wireless signal is emitted that alerts a 24 hour monitoring centre. It is designed to empower older people by making them feel confident and secure when going about their daily lives. I urge anyone who thinks they meet the cri...

Every week, cars are dumped on Gormanston beach. Attempts are being made to not only crack down on this awful illegal dumping, but also to get them removed faster. New national waste bye-laws are being implemented which may help to reduce illegal dumping.

Cloghertown 5k unveiled the new running track at the GAA club. 10 laps of the track = 5k. I had a great time at this event and especially enjoyed the 'runner's high' and cheeseburger afterwards!
